FUNDRAISING GOALS

Funds to enhance El Faro Salute!

The Penobscot Marine Museum, Maine’s oldest marine museum, works to promote and protect the rich maritime heritage of the Penobscot Bay Region and its history. This 501c3 organization served as the fiscal sponsor for the creation and installation of El Faro Salute! and continues to serve in that role for continued enhancements to the prominent memorial and its maintenance.

Efforts are underway to create and install a worthy story board with details of the SS El Faro, its crew, the importance of the US Merchant Marine and how the memorial came to be. Other enhancements include a professionally designed solar lighting system, additional seating for viewing and contemplation, hardscape for the circular space in front of El Faro Salute! and continued improvements and updates to the website.

“When we agree to serve as fiscal sponsor for a project, we look for things that fit our mission and that further the work we are doing. When Jay approached us, it felt like a natural fit. We are not just a historical museum. It is important for us to capture and share the ongoing maritime history and culture of Maine and Penobscot Bay. The El Faro is an important part of the story of Maine and its maritime culture. This is a beautiful tribute to those who were lost.”
